Video Scripting

The A+ Foundation wanted to create a video that examined artist and West Aurora alumna, Ruth Van Sickle Ford’s biography, Warm Light, Cool Shadows. After being hired by Infinite Video Productions, Inc., The Write Word researched, wrote the script and suggested images, interview clips, and locations for shooting. The resulting promotional video shows how five West alumni were involved in creating the book. View the video here.

When Meeder Design & Remodeling needed to build a website, The Write Word was chosen to build the copy and write a postcard. Two years later, the same client was celebrating a milestone in business with a re-design and branding. Again, The Write Word was consulted to update the copy. Their news was announced with a press release, which was also re-purposed into an advertorial for a local newspaper’s special advertising section. A year later an SEO firm updated the website, but the original copy (for the most part) was considered viable. To view the current version, visit meederhomeremodel.com.

Direct Response Postcards

Direct Response Postcards

When Batavia, Illinois was named to Money magazine’s Top 100 Best Places to Live in 2009, Batavia’s economic department chose to use this fact to attract businesses to the City of Batavia, Illinois. A general postcard was developed to highlight the City’s attractions. In addition, two direct-mail postcards were created to market to specific businesses. These tied into two “top business” lists named by Crain’s Chicago Business: fastest growing firms and best places to work firms. The Write Word was hired to write the copy for all these cards.

At a later date, the economic development department again turned to The Write Word when they decided to market to commercial real-estate brokers. They wanted to highlight three aspects of Batavia to appeal to firms looking to either expand or move their operations. Copy for a series of envelope stuffers that would be included with a letter was written. These cards are also used as handouts during presentations. Additionally, The Write Word helped find the right words for the introductory letter. To view the finished cards, follow these links:

Batavia House Walk Program

Batavia House Walk Program

The House Walk is a fundraiser for Batavia MainStreet. The walk showcases five homes and celebrates its seventh year in 2013. Because the individual house captains wrote the profile for each home, the program suffered from a lack of consistency.  For the past five years, The Write Word has written and helped proof the program booklet, which also serves as the ticket to the event.

Each profile is approximately 600 words and is written following a special tour and interview with the homeowner. At times, further research is necessary; mainly to find or verify historical facts and to verify correct terminology. The goal of the copy is to entice, as well as provide enough details that the event attendees can remember what they saw.

A PDF of the 2012 program is available to read. The theme for Turning the Pages of Batavia Living was shelter magazines.
